Timothy Shay & Mary Drake

Timothy was born October 26, 1756 of Irish descent. He was married twice and had 13 children. He arrived in Sandyston during the Revolution.

His origins are uncertain. His father may have been Matthew Shay per Eleanor Roe. Snell says he was born in Virginia, Crawn says Connecticut. A Timothy Shay did live in Voluntown, CT in April 1763 where he inherited 5 acres from his father, also a Timothy. His mother was Catherine and his older brother was William. There was also a sister Mary. (From will and inventory)

On January 19, 1778 Timothy (21) married Mary Drake (18), born August 20, 1759. The were married by Daniel Predmore, Justice of the Peace. She was mother to all his 13 children. Not sure of her parents, but Snell mentions an Ephraim Drake who came to Sandyston from Andover after the Revolution. He had a son Benjamin, but it doesn't mention other children.

They owned a farm in the north portion of Sandyston Township. In Snell's time it was owned by Jeptha C. Shay.
